July 25, 2013 – At 11 a.m. today, the North Carolina General Assembly begins its final session. S127 is on the table, with fast-track fracking language as part of the provision. We need your help NOW!
This bill sets a date to begin issuing permits for the state to drill before the regulatory process is complete. Most importantly, the General Assembly would not get another chance to review the regulations before permits could be issued. This is the last scheduled day of session. Senate Bill 76 passed the House and Senate this week without the key provision that would fast track fracking. But yesterday, the General Assembly inserted fast-track fracking language into SB 127 in an effort to pass it without any public notice.
This is a broken promise to the people of North Carolina. We need your support to fix it and to stop this provision.
