Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund, in the field…
Wilson County Farmers’ Market big check presentation: May 8, 2010
Jeff Jennings from NC Tobacco Trust (right) and Julius Tillery of RAFI-USA (next to Jeff) present a check to representatives of the Wilson Farmers’ Market.
Wilson Farmers’ Market received a grant from RAFI-USA to promote and advertise the market. The funding will be used for promotional tools such as radio announcements, newspaper and billboard advertisements. In addition the market has printed canvas bags with the Wilson Farmers’ Market logo to hand to customers as they purchase their merchandise.
The big check presentation was pleasant. Billy Little of Wilson County extension office, introduced Jeff Jennings and myself to the customers and vendors at the market. Both Jeff and I congratulated the market for their progress and thanked customers for coming to the market to support local farmers. The big check presentation was a special opportunity not only for the Wilson Farmers’ Market to be recognized, it also gave us the chance to recognize two other farmers who were vendors at this market, Matthew Garrett and Jerry Coleman, also recipients of grants from RAFI’s Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund program.(Garrett and Coleman are pictured below).
Throughout the morning, I saw a great deal of optimism from consumers and vendors. Everyone seemed very pleased, and there was a steady flow of traffic. Overall, this visit to the Wilson Farmers’ Market was great. I believe the farmers and consumers will benefit greatly from the work that the Wilson Farmers’ Market has put into action. You can come see for yourself; the Wilson County Farmers’ Market is located at the Wilson County Fairgrounds off HWY 301. The street address of the farmers market is 2331 US Hwy 301 S in Wilson, North Carolina.
