Returning Economic Vitality to Livestock and Poultry

On the eve of our first presidential debate of 2020, we want to highlight a letter RAFI-USA and others sent to both presidential candidates on the issue of fair competition in the livestock sector for family farmers and ranchers. We believe that competition within a market is essential to farmer and rancher success. Livestock and poultry markets are extremely consolidated, with fewer and fewer competitors in the market, resulting in lower prices and compensation for farmers and ranchers. This lack of competition has had dramatically negative effects on rural economies. We urge both candidates to include in their platform reforming the livestock and poultry sector to return fair competition to markets for farmers and ranchers.
