RAFI Kicks off 2015 Grant Program for Farmers with Tour at Pickett Farm

This year, RAFI will celebrate 18 years of serving small and mid-scale family farmers across NC through our grant program. To kick-off a new round of grant-making through our Agricultural Reinvestment Fund, we’ve organized a farm tour with two of our current grantees on Wednesday, November 5th from 1 to 3 pm. Our program is funded by the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, whose staff will also be in attendance as we mark this occasion. Judy and Gene Pickett, former tobacco growers, will host the event at their multi-generational family farm in Duplin County. This year, Judy and Gene received a grant to establish a new agri-tourism project, the Fun Time Farm & Corn Maze. Pigs_Pickett_FarmAdditionally, Beth Kahn and Chris Pickett will be on hand to demonstrate the hog tractors they built with the help of a grant earlier this year. (Photos documenting the progress of their project are below, courtesy of Beth Kahn.) The event is free and open to the public and will include demonstrations of creative farm business ideas for farmers and the general public. Light refreshments will be served. Date: Wednesday, November 5, 2014 Time: 1 – 3 pm Address: 258 Henry Dunn Pickett Road, Beulaville, NC >> To learn more about the event and RSVP, click here. >> To learn more about our grants for farmers ($8,000) and grants for collaborative groups ($10,000), please see: www.rafiusa.org/grants
RAFI-USA staff are currently working remotely. As we plan for how COVID-19 will change both how we do our work, and what work needs to be done, please know that we are still here. Our Farmer Hotline (866-586-6746) will operate from Monday-Saturday from 9am to 6pm. Stay tuned for more updates and information.
