What is your name, and where do you farm?
Jillian Mickens. I farm in Cedar Grove in Orange County.

How long have you been farming?

My husband and I have been farming for three years.

What kind of farm do you run?
We grow organically produced cut flowers and produce for local farmers markets.

Why are you running for county committee?
I’m running for county committee to become more in touch with my farming neighbors.  I also want to make sure that local farmers (especially those who are underserved) have access to programs and services that can help them the most.

What do you think qualifies you for the position?
My experiences as a new farmer, first at the Breeze Incubator Farm and now on my own land, has given me insight into the challenges of establishing and building a farm business. Through my interaction in the farming community I am aware of the special challenges faced by young and low resource growers.
