RAFI (Rural Advancement Foundation International – USA) is looking to develop a small pool of writers and an editor to assist with online content as well as contribute to our tri-annual magazine, Living Roots, launched in early 2023. Freelancers will be contracted to write news, features, or online stories/content, with the potential for editorial and review pieces as well.
RAFI is also looking for a copy editor to assist the in-house Living Roots managing editor with editing, proofreading, and occasional re-casting or re-organizing articles.
RAFI challenges the root causes of unjust food systems, supporting and advocating for economically, racially, and ecologically just farm communities. Utilizing a multi-pronged approach, RAFI serves small- to mid-scale farmers in the Southeast U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands with its direct service work, grant giving, market support, and financial crisis assistance. RAFI is particularly committed to lifting up farmers of color with a variety of networking, educational, and financial programs.
Prospective candidates should possess knowledge of and a deep commitment to sustainable agriculture, climate change mitigation, and the societal dynamics that place smaller family-owned farms at a disadvantage when competing with large industrial corporate agriculture models.
To apply: Submit a cover letter, three writing samples, three references, and your desired rate.
RAFI values an equitable and inclusive workplace. We are deeply committed to engaging the skills and leadership of people of color, LGBTQ persons, and other individuals from diverse backgrounds. Research shows that often women and people from underrepresented groups only apply to jobs for which they meet 100% of the qualifications. RAFI is interested in attracting a diverse pool of candidates who want to contribute as a part of a dedicated, hard-working, collaborative team, driven by equity. You need not check every box. If much of this describes you, we encourage you to apply.
