Are you considering growing produce in a caterpillar or high tunnel-type system for season extension, soil and water conservation, and pest management? Is it hard to decide which model is best for your operation and which is feasible?
RAFI-USA and Fairport Farms LLC (Kittrell, NC) invite small and beginning farmers to join us for a workshop event and collaborative construction of Fairport Farm’s caterpillar tunnel in Kittrell, NC! Seasoned farmer Howard Allen of Faithfull Farms will join us on the farm to present the basics, best practices, and lessons learned in high tunnel vegetable production, and will shepherd anyone wanting to help through the successful construction of a 100’ x 16’ Farmers Friend caterpillar tunnel structure. RAFI-USA will also share information about NRCS high tunnel cost-share assistance and important considerations. It’s February, so please come prepared for outside work. A box lunch and restroom will be provided for all guests. Please register below by Wednesday, February 22, 2022. The exact location will be sent to you after registering for the event.
Please note: This event is not an endorsement of Farmers Friend, but is meant to present one of many options for small farmers’ season extension efforts. Registration is reserved for farmers and beginning farmers only.
