Ernestine Young farms with her husband Dorfus on 20 acres outside of Clarksdale, Mississippi. The Young family intentionally purchased land that was used to cultivate cotton and represented a dark legacy of forced labor, with the goal of transforming that land into a space that gives back to the community. The Young family grows a variety of produce, grapes for their winery and gives large focus to educating a new generation of farmers in agricultural practices. The Young family intends to use their grant award to build a new structure that can produce and store wine more efficiently to meet the increasing demand of their customer base.
