Local Food Access Ambassador

Increase the ability of NC farmers markets and other direct market food outlets to serve low-wealth communities and address access to healthy, sustainably raised food. This position is based in Asheville, NC and will have office space at ASAP, a RAFI partner organization. The Local Foods Access Ambassador will provide technical and program support for SNAP/EBT access at 3 farmers markets in Western NC. This position requires familiarity with market management, knowledge of sustainable agriculture, knowledge of community organizing, strong personal organization, and strong written and verbal communication. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required. Duties include helping to establish or improve SNAP/EBT technology and programming at 3 farmers markets in Western NC, organizing community events targeted at SNAP recipients and their families, and developing a volunteer manual for individuals and community groups interested in learning how best to support local food access for SNAP recipients in their region. Community Outreach Coordinator

Support family farms and sustainable agriculture by engaging with community members and stakeholders on issues related to agriculture, food and justice. The Community Outreach Coordinator will strengthen and formalize RAFI’s community relations program including recruiting, training and managing volunteers, and evaluating volunteers, programs, partners and sponsors. Required skills include event planning, public speaking, writing, editing, documentation, data management and proficiencies in Microsoft Word and Excel. The ideal candidate will have an interest in sustainable agriculture, social justice and community relations. Duties include establishing and maintaining relationships with key community organizations, farmers and businesses; participating in management of general outreach strategies to ensure goals are met; managing volunteers; securing event sponsors and donations; and supporting resource development as needed.
