Ross Mickens

Open Door Farm, Cedar Grove, NC

Project Snapshot:
Open Door Farm is diversifying their crops to include long-term storage crops to ensure they have products to sell during the fall and winter. They are building a cooler facility to store these vegetables to ensure a long shelf life and high quality, including proper curing, refrigeration, and specific humidity needs.

Bio: Open Door Farm was established in 2012 by Ross and Jillian Mickens in Cedar Grove, North Carolina. They sell organically grown produce and cut flowers at local farmers’ markets and through CSA programs. As first-generation farmers, they strive to educate ourselves in sustainable and innovative farming practices with the goal of being good land stewards of our 43-acre property. Ross has a background in electrical engineering, and that technical experience helps him solve problems on the farm and aids in using a variety of farm tools and equipment. Open Door Farm is passionate about local food and enjoy providing fresh and healthy foods to their community.
