Lindsay Johnson farms for the love of working outside with the plants and animals and of feeding family and community with fresh, healthy, clean food. At Bluebird Hill Farms, an 18-acre diversified family farm in Patrick County, Virginia, Johnson grows cut flowers and year-round vegetables and has pasture-raised poultry for egg and meat production. The family sells at three farmers markets as well as direct on-farm sales, and looks forward to launching a CSA soon.
With the help of the Beginning Farmer Stipend, Johnson is building a new cold storage room to help store more produce and keep it fresher for longer. The project will help boost sales of fresh produce and reduce food waste.
