Since
1997, the Reinvestment Fund has helped develop 89 cost-share initiatives.
With the generous support of the North
Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission and the Golden LEAF Foundation,
RAFI-USA has been able to make cost-share awards in 2003, 2004,
2005, 2006, and 2007. The projects are diverse, reflecting the diversity
of opportunities that exist across the state. These demonstration
initiatives are leading the way for rural North Carolinians to find
new ways to replace lost tobacco income. RAFI-USA’s investment
in farmer-developed enterprises increases the likelihood of success
of the new enterprises, spreads the risk, helps farmers develop
business skills, and ultimately leads to overall community economic
stability.
